How do you measure wellbeing in the workplace?

Contrary to popular belief, it isn’t difficult to pull together a substantial range of metrics to start measuring workplace wellbeing.

We advise three stages to this approach, PLAN, DEFINE and REASSESS

PLAN

Initially we would recommend that you obtain baseline figures (pre-wellbeing activity) and then ensure that you continue to record the same metrics year upon year.

Not only is this a good starting point to compare, it will also indicate the areas that your current employees are struggling with, and allow you visibility to focus on these key problem areas.

DEFINE

To start with we would recommend recording 8 metrics:

1️⃣ Employee Engagement: Measure the level of employee involvement, enthusiasm, and commitment towards their work and your organisation. e.g. a net promotor score.

2️⃣ Work-Life Balance: Assess how well employees are able to manage their professional responsibilities alongside personal commitments.

3️⃣ Mental Health Support: Gauge the accessibility and utilisation of mental health resources within the organisation. This includes counselling services, EAP lines, mindfulness programs, and initiatives to reduce stigma around mental health issues.

4️⃣ Physical Wellness: Track indicators such as absenteeism, presenteeism, and participation in wellness activities to evaluate the physical health of employees.

5️⃣ Diversity and Inclusion: Measure the inclusion and equity of the workplace environment and the representation of diverse perspectives.

6️⃣ Job Satisfaction: Conduct regular surveys to assess employee satisfaction with various aspects of their roles, including workload, pay, autonomy, career development opportunities, and recognition.

7️⃣ Burnout and Stress Levels: Monitor signs of burnout such as increased absenteeism, decreased productivity, and emotional exhaustion.

8️⃣ Microsoft Viva Insights: Use this tool to measure size and quality of networks, plus time spent in meetings and communicative happiness rating.

REASSESS

By tracking these metrics and taking proactive steps to address areas of concern, your organisation can create a culture of wellbeing that benefits both employees and the bottom line. If the wellbeing strategy works you will see significant uplift in those employee engagement and net promotor scores!

Together, let's prioritise the health and happiness of our workforce! 💼🌱
