Make Monday blues a thing of the past…

On Monday we discussed the fact that unfortunately many employees experience “Sunday Scaries” ahead of returning to work on Monday.

A LinkedIn Survey in 2018, suggested that 80% of professionals have experienced Sunday Scaries, which was often triggered by work-related stress and dread.

We promised to provide you with some simple steps to try to minimise this dread and embed a culture of wellbeing throughout every level of your organisation.

At Invigorate Spaces we’ve created this triangle to help businesses zoom out and look at wellness holistically.  Every segment of this triangle is essential if your wellness strategy is to be successful.

SEVEN PILLARS TO NORMALISE WELLNESS IN YOUR ORGANISATION

1.     COMPANY CULTURE – Creating a culture of psychological safety is essential for positive wellness changes to occur.  “Speak Up” Campaigns only work, if the person speaking up isn’t penalised when they highlight things which are counterproductive to their wellness.

2.     WORKPLACE LOCATION – If you can select your location, always factor in commuting for staff, customers and your community.  Worthwhile also considering what the proposed location brings, are their run routes for staff and contemplation spaces in the area to get nice mental breaks away from the office. In many cases organisations already have their HQ locked in, nevertheless an agile workplace strategy can also overcome any barriers that this may bring.

3.     WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT – Workplaces need to cater for all types of people and many different working styles.  Create intentional areas, quiet spaces, gym, wellness rooms, social spaces, focus rooms, phonebooths, workspaces etc.

4.     DIVERSITY & INCLUSION – Your workplace needs to be inviting for everyone.  Do you have dual gender restrooms and universal design incorporated to ensure that no one is restricted because of their disability, which of course in many cases may not be visible to the naked eye.

5.     SOCIAL & COMMUNITY IMPACT – Employees are choosing companies that prioritise their social and community impact.  People feel good when they do good.  Do you have initiatives to encourage people to volunteer or positively impact on their community?

6.     BRAND – Ensure that your workspace reflects your brand, this is even more important as employees adopt a more hybrid working approach.  When they come to the office, they want to feel that brand energy and positivity.

7.     EXPERIENCES – This needs to be looked at in conjunction with every layer of our wellness pyramid.  We like to think of this as the beautiful wrapping of the wellness present.  It attracts people to use the created environments and sign posts them to wellness.

Everything mentioned above normalises wellness and will in turn improve your staff performance.

Ultimately and potentially hard-hitting for some, wellness is everyone’s personal responsibility.  So, training and education on personal wellness for your staff is also important if you really want every level of your organisation to thrive.

As an employer you can support your staff by making this culturally acceptable and of course providing that psychological safety that is essential if your wellness objectives are to be met.

If you need support with your wellness strategy just get in touch, we would love to help.
